How to build a sales funnel that turns ads into orders
What a sales funnel is, its stages, what to show and measure at each one, and where funnels in Egypt usually leak: slow pages, slow WhatsApp replies and no follow-up.
When a business tells us ads don’t work for them, the funnel is usually one step long: an ad, the home page, and waiting. People rarely buy from a brand the first time they see it. A sales funnel is the path that takes them from that first view to an order, one step at a time, with a number measured at every step.
What a sales funnel is
A funnel is the set of steps between a stranger and a customer. It is wide at the top, because many people see you, and narrow at the bottom, because a few of them buy. Most of the gains come from stopping people leaking out between the steps, more than from widening the top.
| Stage | What the buyer thinks | What you show | What you measure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attention | "What is this?" | Short videos, posts, search ads | Reach, video views, cost per thousand impressions |
| Interest | "Is it for me?" | Product pages, demos, reviews, comparisons | Click-through rate, landing page visits, time on page |
| Decision | "Can I trust them? Is the price right?" | The offer, the guarantees you really give, FAQs, WhatsApp answers | Leads, add to cart, cost per lead |
| Purchase | "How do I pay, and when will it arrive?" | A short checkout, local payments, clear delivery | Orders, conversion rate, cost per sale |
| Repeat | "Was it worth it?" | Follow-up, after-sales service, offers for returning customers | Repeat orders, reviews, referrals |
What the funnel looks like in Egypt
Two things change the shape of the funnel here. WhatsApp is often the decision stage, because many buyers want to ask a question before they order. And cash on delivery adds a confirmation step after the order, where a call or a message decides whether the parcel is accepted. A funnel built only around a website checkout misses both.
How to build it, step by step
- Define the buyer and the offer. Who buys, what problem they solve, and why they should buy now. One clear offer beats five vague ones.
- Top: earn attention. Short videos that show the product in use or the problem it solves, on the platforms your buyers use, and search ads if people already look for what you sell.
- Middle: give a reason to come closer. A landing page for each offer, a WhatsApp button, a lead form, or a useful guide in exchange for a phone number.
- Bottom: close. Retarget people who watched, visited or messaged, with the offer, reviews and a deadline. Reply on WhatsApp within minutes during working hours.
- After: bring them back. A thank-you message, delivery updates, a review request and a second offer after the first order.
Measure every stage, not only the last one
Cost per sale tells you the funnel is expensive. The stage numbers tell you where. If many people click and few leave their number, the landing page is the problem. If many leave their number and few buy, look at reply speed, the price or the follow-up. If people buy once and never return, the after-sale stage is missing.
To see this you need the pixel and Conversions API, a GA4 event for each step, UTM links on every ad, and a CRM that records where each lead came from. Without a CRM, WhatsApp leads stay in phones and nobody knows which ad brought them.
Two examples
An online store
Reels showing the product in use reach new people. Those who watched most of a video see a carousel with prices and reviews. Visitors who added to cart and left see a reminder with free shipping for 48 hours. After delivery, a WhatsApp message asks for a review and suggests related products.
A service company
Google Search ads catch people searching for the service. The landing page answers the main questions and offers a free consultation. Leads go straight into the CRM with their source, and a salesperson calls within the hour. People who did not book see case studies on Meta over the next two weeks.
Where funnels leak
- A landing page that is slow to open on mobile data.
- WhatsApp messages answered hours later, or never.
- One ad shown to everyone, whatever stage they are at.
- No retargeting, so interested people never see you again.
- Leads kept in phones and notebooks, so nobody follows up.
- No offer for the second order.
Questions about sales funnels
Does a small business need a funnel?
Yes, and a small one is enough: one video ad, one landing page, a clear way to answer WhatsApp and one retargeting ad. That is already a complete funnel.
How long until a funnel works?
Use the first weeks to learn which message and audience convert. After that, improve one stage at a time, starting with the one that loses the most people.
Do I need a CRM?
Once leads come from more than one channel, or more than one person answers them, yes. Otherwise you can’t tell which ads bring buyers. The CRM systems we build bring leads, WhatsApp and ads into one place.
Our ads team builds funnels like these with clients, from tracking and landing pages to retargeting. For November, read our White Friday 2026 campaign plan.
